Halsnøy in Sunnhordland
Sunnhordland folk high school is beautifully situated on the island of Halsnøy, between Bergen and Stavanger on the west coast of Norway.
The island is located in the commune of Kvinnherad, and right to our west is Stord with the town Leirvik. Situated at the entrance to the Hardanger fjord, the landscape around the school/college is open and luxuriant. High mountains loom in the background to the east, and the open sea, dotted with little islands, stretches out towards the west. Halsnøy itself has a varied terrain, from a small mountain, to forest, sheep pastures, and beaches. A short walk from the school you will find the ruins of an old monastery, abandoned in the 16.th century. The school has it's own boat house with canoes you can borrow.
