The study programme at Sunnhordland folk high school
You choose one main subject with 20 lessons à week.
All foreigners will get the offer of a short and intensive course in Norwegian language for about 2-4 lessons a week.
Sometimes our students achieve a high level of competence in Norwegian. Some also do the high level test "Bergenstesten".
In addition to choosing a main subject, you may also choose one or more optional subjects.
Examples of options: Art, Harmony, Guitar, Yoga, Strengthening and stretching, Ball games, Digital photo, Ballet, Out of door life, Vocal ensemble, creative writing and Japanese.
We also have some option course days with short intensive courses in for instance: Photography, Film/video, Art, Street Art, Music theory, out of door life, Poetry or specific topics within the main subject areas.
Since our subjects coexist very well together, we also put some emphasis on cross curricula work to exploit the competences we have in the institution.
We have both big stage projects with all the main subjects involved, and smaller arrangements with two main subjects cooperating. As an example, the Music production group and the Music group may collaborate on recording music, whereas the Music production group and the Art + group might make installation using visual arts and sound.
We have a few seminars related to the subject areas of the school and towards the general aims of the college. The whole school has a regular meeting place, called “skolens time”, where we discuss issues relevant for our life in the school.
Tours – London, Berlin, Tokyo and more
We go on different tours during the school year here at Sunnhordland folk high school. Each main subject has their study tour. In addition we go on shorter excursions in Norway.
In the spring term you will get the possibility to join us on a trip to Japan.
