Actor development

The primary focus here is on stage performance and the setting up of theatre productions. Our approach will facilitate your understanding and experience as an actor.

In addition there are opportunities to develop your acting talents in other areas: acting in front of the camera in our short film project;   acquire a greater awareness of movement and physiology, whilst contributing to the Game Art line’s animations,  through projects with our motion capture equipment; in our sound studio with voice acting for radio theatre, films or computer games; possibilities to work with other lines such as music and art. Your interests are a deciding factor in the direction you take.

Introductions to both the techniques of Stanislavsky and Viewpoint are central to the course as is the role of creative play.

Theatre

During the year there are three / four major productions designed to provide a broad experience base across a range of genres. Most of the time is allocated to rehearsal and acting, providing a lot of stage experience.

Students from other subjects regularly supply music, sound, and digital art for these productions which are inspiring for the actors.

In the spring am major production is mounted in collaboration with students from other subject areas. This production goes on tour.

Continual dialogue with the theater teacher is viewed as essential in the development of the student as an actor.

Film

There is at least one short film project with a guest teacher during the year. Here processes behind a movie - idea / script, storyboard, camera usage, acting in front of the camera and editing are covered.

Study trips – London, Oslo and Japan

The study provide inspiration and impulses along with information for further study opportunities.

In London you will experience the greatest theater diversity Europe has to offer, ranging from large spectacular musicals through the classics to small, experimental events.

In Berlin you will attend actor-workshops as well as theater visits. You will also experience, what is arguably, the most exciting arts scene in Europe at the moment.

As a student at Sunnhordland Folk High School, there is an offer to join the school visit to Japan.

Theatre for you

At Sunnhordland Folk High School you are welcome regardless of how much acting experience you have from before - the most important thing is that you are open to new work methods and challenges, and that you are curious and motivated to work with the subject.

We are structured and work hard to achieve good results. You will explore your own abilities and work in co - operation with others on the line. Our aim is to create a good and creative working environment.

We strive to adapt the year to the wishes of the students, and attache great importance to listening to you. All our facilities are open for you to create your own projects in your spare time, either alone or with your fellow students.

Theatre space

The school has a great theater room - black box. Here you will find all the necessary equipment for theater arrangements, such as flexible lighting and sound systems.

In addition, the students on Theater  have their own "vetlebox" for self-study, group work and film editing.
The school has video and editing equipment for film production.
