Game Design is for you who love video and computer games!
You want to explore how games function and to create your own games. Through this work you will develop your creativity and imagination.
This is a subject for you who want to make your own games, learn about today’s game industry and the possibilities that exist out there.
You are curious as to how games are created and what makes them such good entertainment. Your creative and analytical faculties will be developed, you will get to know people who work with game development and you will leave the school with your own game portfolio.
At Sunnhordland Folkehøgskule we take gaming seriously and aim to give you an insight into all aspects of the subject. We focus on engines that allow us to make games fast so that afterwards we can fine tune them and establish what works well and what needs to be changed.
To begin with, we make classic 2D arcade / retro games in Game Maker Studio before concentrating on 2D and3D with Unity3D.
You will learn to plan your development processes, write design documents and how to test your ideas effectively.
Game design in a creative environment
You will develop your game design skills through both individual and group work; inspired by others who share your passion for gaming.
Game design at Sunnhordland Folkehøgskule facilitates a fertile environment where young people with this special interest can interact with each other. Elements associated with game design such as movement, music, music production, creative writing, art ,theatre and film can in addition be explored through the school’s option subjects and joint projects. You will be able to work with students from other lines and use their knowledge and experience in your own projects.
London: this study trip in the autumn includes visits to Comic – Con along with other relevant and inspiring experiences.

Video games design and you
If you want to realize your ideas and explore the world of gaming then this line is for you. Our programme prepares you if you want to go further with game design either through higher education such as high school or if you want to start your own firm; in fact, we offer a second year for students who wish to follow this path.
The main teacher for Game Design is Markus Lange. In addition some elements will be taught by our well qualified staff on other lines and guest teachers.

You will need your own laptop, not more than three years old with Window 7 or OSX 10.9 or newer. You will use your computer for almost everything during the year so it is important that it is fit for purpose. We also recommend that you have your own headset and an external hard drive.
